Orly doesn’t have Roissy’s sprawling reputation, and that’s genuinely good news: it’s smaller, closer to the centre, and generally easier to leave. Since 2024, there’s also a real game-changer. Here’s an honest rundown of what’s on offer.
Metro Line 14: the real upgrade for getting into Paris
If you haven’t visited in a few years, this is the headline change: metro line 14 now runs directly into Orly Airport, no fiddly connections or shuttle hunting in the dark. Around 25 minutes to Châtelet, for a flat €14 fare (the “Ticket Paris Région-Aéroports”). Trains every 2 to 5 minutes, from 5:30am to just past midnight. For the time-to-cost ratio, it’s genuinely hard to beat if you’re travelling light.
The Orlybus: simple, but slower
A direct run to Denfert-Rochereau, no changes, for a comparable fare. Easy to follow on a first trip, but expect 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic — and you’ll still be at Denfert, not necessarily near your hotel.
Taxis: still around, same usual constraints
Flat rate into central Paris, same as at CDG. The constraint is the same too: finding an available taxi rank, with your bags, without knowing quite how long you’ll wait.
A private chauffeur: the option where nothing is left to chance
Line 14 is excellent if you’re travelling solo with a backpack. But with two suitcases, a tired child, or simply the wish to switch off after a flight, a private chauffeur changes things completely. At Crénolia, your driver tracks your flight in real time, waits for you at the right terminal exit — Orly has four terminals (1, 2, 3, and 4), and terminal 4, the former Orly Sud, sits noticeably apart from the other three — and drives you straight there in an electric SUV. Fixed price from €65 to Paris, luggage included.
Our honest take
Comfortable with Paris transport and travelling light? Line 14 is probably your best bet, full stop. Arriving tired, travelling as a family, or just wanting your trip to start without a second thought? Book a driver ahead of time. The price difference is justified by what it saves you, not just by what it adds.
